Job Description:

Conducts donor/patient interviews, physical assessments, phlebotomy and general registration. Oversees donation process and recovery. Organizes work in a way that is procedurally correct and assures the effective, safe and customer-oriented processing of blood from donors and patients. Majority of work will take place at mobile draw locations with assignments at donor center locations as needed. May cover as Charge Nurse as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Treats customers (external and internal) with dignity, respect, and in a friendly and professional manner.

  2. Maintains appropriate confidentiality with donor/staff/organizational information.

  3. Performs donor/patient phlebotomy and sample collections including automated procedures if trained.

  4. Conducts medical history interviewing and physical assessment.

  5. May perform donor registration if trained.

  6. Oversees the safe, procedurally correct, and customer-oriented collection, storage, and transport of blood.

  7. Serves as consultant regarding complicated donor/patient histories and works to resolve problematic donor/patient phlebotomies.

  8. Observes and ensures staff is following LifeStream policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.

  9. Prevents, responds to and manages donor reactions, including required documentation.

  10. Balance the needs of staff and donors with LifeStream values and goals.

  11. Assures compliance with all Collections standard operating procedures, and keeps self and staff current with all changes.

  12. Works on different Mobiles and in Donor Centers as assigned.

  13. Conducts deferrals/eligibility overrides per procedure as required.

  14. Provides feedback to Supervisor/Manager regarding staff performance and assists in presenting employee performance reviews.

  15. Completes documentation on Mobile Summaries, injury and exposure documentation as needed, etc.

  16. Acts as Charge RN, as needed

  17. Reviews quality control documentation at draw sites prior to donor processing to ensure equipment/supply accuracy.

  18. Other duties as assigned.

Must maintain a high standard for conscientious, courteous, and enthusiastic service to internal and external customers, and the public in general. Must make customer's needs a high priority in face-to-face or telephone contact. Must consistently deliver service in a timely, accurate, professional, and friendly manner. Demonstrates a high level of problem-solving skills.

COMPLEXITY:

Work mostly includes various duties involving different and unrelated processes and methods. Decisions on what needs to be done frequently require analysis of the subject in each assignment, and chosen course of action may be selected from several alternatives. Work involves conditions and elements that must be analyzed to identify interrelationships. Decisions by the employee as to what needs to be done include assessment of unusual circumstances, variations in approach and incomplete or conflicting data.

NATURE AND EXTENT OF SUPERVISION PROVIDED TO THE POSITION:

Overall, objectives and resource allocations are determined by the Supervisor, providing broad administrative direction, with assignments given in terms of broadly defined missions or functions. Employee plans, designs and carries out programs, projects, studies, or other work independently. Results are considered technically sound by virtue of the employee's expertise, and are generally accepted with review only for conformity to objectives, contribution to program goals, or advancement of technological understanding.

EDUCATION:

Associate's Degree (AS) or Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Nursing.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum three months to one year of generalized Nursing and/or Clinical experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, ETC.

Current California Registered Nurse (RN) License and current CPR Certification. Current valid California Driver's License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Refer to ADA checklist attached for physical demands.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Laboratory and Medical environment with high risks including driving..
